In information you already knew but probably forgot, Robbie Fowler is currently plying his trade as a manager in the Indian Super League. He took over East Bengal in October after leaving his post as manager of Brisbane Roar during the first Covid lockdown last year.
Perhaps unfairly, you would expect a job in a league of such low standing for a legend of the game would suggest he's over there for some easy money and a bit of sun. But that doesn't seem to be the case for Robbie Fowler.
Under pressure after a very poor start to the season (East Bengal lost four of their first five games in the league), Fowler is starting to turn things around, and the club are unbeaten in the seven games since. The remain second bottom of 11 teams after 12 games, though and there have been a lot more draws than wins in the seven game run.
After a 0-0 draw with Chenaniyin FC on Monday night, Fowler was being interviewed live on TV when the interviewer, a former manager himself, questioned the behaviour of the Englishman and his bench during the contest.
Fowler had midfielder Ajay Chhetri sent off after 31 minutes, making it the third time this season that his team had had a man sent off early in a game.
The former Liverpool star was unhappy with the officiating throughout the game, with the opposition receiving only two yellow cards despite committing 18 fouls. In contrast, East Bengal received three yellows despite committing only half that number.
Fowler and his staff made their feelings about the refereeing decisions known, leading to this post-match question. It's safe to say he didn't take it all that well.

We feel we have to help them makes decisions because the decisions have been absolutely appalling. The referee and fourth officials are quickly coming over to our bench when the other bench is doing the exact same thing.
It's quick enough for you to say we should appalled by our behaviour. It's absolutely disgraceful the question that you've given me, it's absolutely ridiculous.
Do you want us to take it on board and just say 'it's a foul' and go from there. Have a little bit of respect for us as well. If we think we're hard done by of course we're going to say something, that question is absolutely ridiculous...

It's rich for you coming out and saying 'you should be appalled', because I'll go back and look at the record and look at some of your history to see if you've taken everything on board. I bet you haven't.

Former Ireland international Anthony Pilkington is among Fowler's charges at East Bengal, scoring one goal and assisting another in eight appearances this season.
