Robbie Fowler has been named manager of A-League side Brisbane Roar.
The 44-year-old has agreed a two-year contract.
The club is currently second from bottom of the ten-team Australian league with one game of the season remaining.
Welshman Darren Davies has been manager in a caretaker role since John Aloisi resigned in December.
"I'm really looking forward to the challenge and am determined to bring success to a club that has such a proud history in the Hyundai A-League," said the Liverpool legend.
I'm really keen to get started and make a difference.
My family and I have already experienced living in Queensland, so I'm really happy to be returning and being part of the Brisbane Roar family.
Fowler has been involved as a coach with the Liverpool academy. His only previous managerial experience was a brief period with Thai side Muangthong United in 2011/12.
As Fowler mentions, he does have previous experience of the game in Australia. He played for both North Queensland Fury and Perth Glory.
