Nobody likes to see a player go down injured, and when Slovakia took the lead at the Aviva Stadium and Ireland goalkeeper Rob Elliot lay motionless with hands on head, those who noticed got a sinking feeling that his injury could be a bad one.

Elliot has been one of the very few positives for Newcastle in a seriously bleak campaign thus far, as after coming in to replace the injured Tim Krul he put in a string of impressive performances, and the general concensus is that Newcastle would be a lot worse off were it not for the Irish keeper this season.

The news that another of their goalkeepers had gone down, with such a vital game against Norwich coming up at the weekend, has been particularly tough for Newcastle fans to take.

The inexperienced Karl Darlow will now likely be called upon to defend the Newcastle United goal, and we'll all be hoping that Elliot can recover in time and claim his place on the plane to France.

Get well soon, Rob.
