Riyad Mahrez Went To Extreme Lengths To Get Out Of A Trial At St. Mirren

Before Leicester City, nobody knew who Riyad Mahrez was. That's probably why the Foxes were able to get the PFA Player of the Year for two packets of hobnobs.

But Leicester wasn't Mahrez's first exposure to British football. The Algerian has revealed that he went on trial with Scottish side St. Mirren. I think it's fair to say from Mahrez's account of his time there that he wasn't enamoured with the Scottish way of life:

It was physical and it was cold. We trained in the snow! I felt that I progressed, I wasn’t allowed to go so I left in secret.

I borrowed a bike so I could get my things I had left at the training ground, before catching a train to the airport and going home.

The Algerian needed to fake an injury just to get out of training to be able to get to the airport.

We're not sure how Mahrez would have been able to return the bike that he 'borrowed' after catching a plane back home, but we're glad for Leicester that things worked out the way they did.
