Former Ballon D'Or winner Rivaldo could be about to lace up his boots and take to the pitch once again, and the ripe old age of 43, after he has began participating in training with the first team squad of his hometown club Mogi Mirim.
Rivaldo announced his retirement from playing 15 months ago, and had been acting as the club president of Mogi Mirim who find themselves in a relegation dogfight at the bottom to Brazil's Serie B after claiming just three points from their opening eight games.
This bad start has prompted the former Barcelona superstar to announce his return to the squad, participating in training with a view to playing if he can cope with the physical demands. He took to Facebook to announce his decision:
After a lot of thinking and analysing the pros and cons, I have decided to join the Mogi Mirim squad.
That doesn’t mean I’m going to play because I’ve been out for a long time and now only administering the club. I stopped playing professionally 15 months ago. If my knee is OK, maybe I can help in a few games. But training will help me to decide.
These are the type of calls you can make when you are the president of a football club. Not happy with his side's performances in the early stages of the season, Rivaldo is hoping his influence in training and possibly in league matches can help give his players a boost and get back to mid-table, which the man himself believes is the minimum to be expected of Mogi Mirim.
