Hardly a shocker, but Manchester United legends Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes have had another go at Louis van Gaal.
Speaking on BT Sport during the build-up for today's FA Cup final between United and Crystal Palace, Ferdinand and Scholes - who made over 1,000 United appearances between them - admonished the manner in which Dutch winger Memphis Depay was axed from Louis van Gaal's squad.
Reports emerged on Friday that Louis van Gaal had met with Depay and informed the 22-year-old of his non-inclusion in United's 18-man squad for Wembley.
Missing out on the squad meant that Depay didn't even travel down to Wembley with the rest of the team, something which Ferdinand and Scholes believe reflects badly on Van Gaal and the club.
You [would have] thought they would just get him on the bus to get here, just to have the experience to come here and see what it’s like.
It's a great occasion. Next season he’s going to want to be here and want to be part of it. This doesn’t send out a positive message at all.
For the future, it doesn’t seem right.
said Ferdinand. Scholes, too, questioned the merits of naming an 18-man squad for a cup final, saying:
You still make him part of the day and part of the weekend.
Depay has struggled to find form in his first season at Old Trafford, and has in recent weeks been linked with a move during the upcoming transfer window.
