One of the most ominous labels in modern American life is 'Fox News contributor' and one of the most celebrated of this merry band is the very right wing Republican, Ann Coulter, a political pundit noted for her quick wit and her possession of opinions which make European sophisticates gag.

Well, soccer is a game played by Americans who are in thrall to those same European sophisticates. So, naturally Ann Coulter has taken aim. Here are some of her best quotes.

- She appeared to indicate that soccer represented a backward step in evolutionary terms.

What sets man apart from the lesser beasts, besides a soul, is that we have opposable thumbs.

- She blames Teddy Kennedy's decision to let immigrants in way back when, for the current dismaying popularity of soccer.

The prospect of either public humiliation or major injury is required to count as a sport. Most sport is sublimated warfare.

She is sick of the insistence of Liberals who are busy pushing soccer

The same people trying to push soccer on Americans are the ones demanding that we love HBO's "Girls," light-rail, Beyonce and Hillary Clinton. The number of New York Times articles claiming soccer is "catching on" is exceeded only by the ones pretending women's basketball is fascinating.

There is no individual achievement in soccer, according to Ann Coulter. This resembles Repubican politician and former American footballer, Jack Kemp's critique of soccer where he claimed Football was a capitalist sport while soccer was a European socialist sport.

There follows a few other familiar observations about the proliferation of 'ties' and '0-0 draws' in soccer and some more controversial comments about the popularity of women's soccer in the US.
