Ten months on from his Brighton debut against Hull in the FA Cup, Richie Towell made just his third appearance for the club on Tuesday night.
Towell played 45 minutes for Brighton in the EFL Trophy - what was previously known at the Johnstone Paint Trophy and is now called the Checkatrade Trophy - against Leyton Orient.
Previously, the competition was only open to sides from League One and Two but now includes academy teams from invited clubs. The invited clubs are allowed to include players over 21. One of those players for Brighton last night was Towell.
The 25-year-old started the game and scored the only goal in a 1-0 win for Leyton Orient.
In the 16th minute, just moments after he had played Elvis Manu through on goal, Towell was found in plenty of space in the box. The former Dundalk player took advantage of some chaos in the Orient defence, finding the top right-hand corner with an excellent finish.
Forward to around the 40 second mark below for the goal.
