Reports are emerging today are suggesting that Bristol Rovers are lining up a move for Dundalk hotshot Richie Towell.

Towell is currently the top scorer in a Dundalk team that has already reclaimed their Airtricity League title. He's hit an impressive 23 goals from 31 appearances this campaign.

The news comes as somewhat of a surprise considering Bristol Rovers are currently sitting in 13th place in League Two, which some would consider a step down for Towell, especially considering Chris Forrester's move to Peterborough in League One which went through back in August

Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke confirmed his interest in the midfielder and said he will be sending someone over to have a further look at the player.

Richie has a good pedigree and is the sort of player who might fit the mould we are looking for.

We have heard some good things about him, but we want to have a look for ourselves and that is probably the next step in the process.

Former Celtic player Towell trained with both Cardiff and Blackpool last Winter but failed to secure a move. Surely he's worth a punt for a Championship or League One club given his fantastic season with the Airtricity League Champions.
