It seems that Liverpool are close to appointing Jurgen Klopp's successor, with the club having reportedly agreed a deal with Feyenoord to bring Arne Slot to Anfield this summer.
The Dutchman had emerged as the strong favourite for the job in recent days, beating out competition from Ruben Amorim and Roberto De Zerbi for the role.
While Slot had been mentioned as a possible contender to become the next Liverpool manager in recent weeks, the speed at which the move has developed has surprised some. After all, it is only a matter of days since it was thought that Amorim was nailed on to move to Merseyside.
The 45-year old has amassed an impressive CV in recent times, impressive at AZ Alkmaar before winning a Dutch title with Feyenoord. Perhaps most importantly, he also plays an attractive high pressing style that is similar to Klopp that would fit with the current squad of players at the club.

Richard Keys had hilarious reaction to Liverpool appointing Arne Slot
Once Xabi Alonso confirmed that he would not be leaving Bayer Leverkusen this summer, the list of potential managerial candidates available became a bit less attractive. The likes of Slot, Amorim, and De Zerbi are all exciting coaching prospects, but they are relatively unproven at the highest level.
Still, those who know Slot well believe that he will be an excellent appointment for Liverpool.
Then you have Richard Keys.
Never one known for his footballing knowledge beyond England (or even within England for that matter), he is unsurprisingly not all that familiar with Slot.
Speaking on beIN SPORTS, Keys said the appointment was a massively underwhelming and suggested that Dutch coaches weren't cut out for success in the Premier League.

Our pundits ain't too pleased with Liverpool going with Arne Slot... #beINPL #WHULIV #LFC pic.twitter.com/4YOPdHe3i6— beIN SPORTS (@beINSPORTS_EN) April 27, 2024
I must confess, I was (surprised).
I'm trying to put myself in the shoes of Liverpool fans. Am I excited? No. Am I surprised? Yes.
I'm underwhelmed if I'm honest, I am seriously underwhelmed. We will get time to discuss more later of course.
I couldn't give you an example of a Dutch manager who has succeeded in our league, I really couldn't. There have been one or two like [Guus] Hiddink or [Louis] van Gaal, or Ruud Gullit that have had limited success, but nobody over a sustained period of time has had success.
I think he's Erik ten Hag in disguise!
While you can certainly debate whether Arne Slot has the CV that would normally lead to a job as big as the Liverpool one, you get the sense that that is all a bit irrelevant to the former Sky Sports presenter. He could have won the Eredivisie eight years on the bounce and Richard Keys would still be questioning if he was ready for 'our league'.
Considering the Qatar-based presenter's strike rate on predictions such at this one, Liverpool fans will probably never be more confident that Arne Slot will go on to be a massive success at the club.
