Richard Keogh is likely to be out of action for 15 months after he suffered a serious knee injury in a car crash last week.

The Ireland international was a passenger in the Range Rover of teammate Tom Lawrence when it hit a lamppost following a night out on Tuesday.

Lawrence and teammate Mason Bennett were subsequently both charged with drinking driving following the incident.

Sky Sports' Rebecca Williams reports that Keogh has injured both his ACL and MCL, an occurrence which could keep him out of action until December 2020.

In a statement censuring Keogh and other players, Derby last week said that the 33-year-old would be out until the end of the season but it seems the injury is much worse than initially thought.

The injury also means that Keogh will be unavailable for the remainder of Ireland's Euro 2020 qualifying campaign along with the finals should Mick McCarthy's side qualify.

Keogh's contract with Derby runs until the summer of 2021.
