In the last few years, quite a few well-known recent Ireland internationals have moved into coaching.
Robbie Keane was involved with Ireland and Middlesbrough, while Keith Andrews is currently part of Stephen Kenny's current backroom team. Damien Duff had roles with Celtic and Ireland before taking over at Shelbourne, with the likes of Shay Given, John O'Shea, Jonathan Walters, and Andy Reid also contributing at club or international level.
In saying that, not many of them have graduated to take the top job at a club. Duff is the only one so far, although it looks as though that could be about to change.
Richard Dunne linked with managerial job
Since retiring, Richard Dunne is perhaps more associated with his role as a pundit on Virgin Media than coaching. However, he has been coaching underage sides in France where he lived with his family and doing his badges along the way.
Talks of him stepping into management had been rather quiet, although some links have now appeared.
The Irish Sun are reporting that Richard Dunne is in the frame to become the next Bohemians manager, with the club on the lookout for a new coach after parting ways with Keith Long in recent times.
Interim Boh boss Derek Pender is also being considered for the role, while former Dundalk manager Vinnie Perth is another name on the shortlist.
Dunne's formal coaching experience is fairly limited, with only a short stint with the Ireland U16s on his CV. In saying that, the opportunity to bring in a massive name in Irish football could appeal to Bohemians.
The club have had a very poor season up to this point, currently sitting in sixth place in the Premier Division and exiting the FAI Cup at the hands of Shelbourne last week.
It would certainly be interesting to see what the former Manchester City star could do in the League of Ireland.
