Portugese journalist Nuno Gomes and 'friend' of Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken out on Ronaldo's beef with the Real Madrid board. Gomes spoke to El Larguero about the furore surrounding the Portugese forward's future at Real Madrid after Ronaldo hinted in the aftermath of his team's victory against Liverpool on Saturday, that his future may lie elsewhere:
Now it's time to enjoy this.
In the next few days I'll give the fans, who have been by my side, an answer.
It's been great being at Real Madrid.
Gomes stated that he doesn't think Ronaldo will leave the Spanish capital, although he did disclose that 33-year-old is annoyed that his contract has not been renewed by the powers that be.
Gomes went on to say that he believes the two parties will be able to settle their differences, as long as Madrid are willing to make the same deals as Barcelona have made to their top stars:
The two will come to an understanding. He is the best player in the world. If you look at how he is paid, Cristiano is very underpaid and he wants a sign from the club like Barcelona did with Xavi, Iniesta and Messi. They renewed them bit by bit. That makes you happy, content and you get money from the club.
The journalist described the relationship between Ronaldo and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez as 'a little bit cold', disclosing that Ronaldo was promised that the club would renew and raise his wages, but that after the La Liga season ended the club told the forward that 'it wasn't the moment' to discuss a new deal. Gomes said that Ronaldo 'feels a bit put out' and 'sad' because the club didn't stick to their word.
When pressed on where Ronaldo could end up if he does leave the Champions League winners, Gomes named two potential destinations:
It's too early for that. There is no better club for Cristiano than Madrid. He likes the city. It has always been an old dream of PSG to sign him. In Europe, either PSG or a return to United, the club he has a lot of love for. He wants to stay and he doesn't see a better club to win titles and Ballon d'Ors.
