Drawing with Poland home and away! The identity of the eventual winners of Euro 92 deepened the sense of regret Irish fans felt about that tournament.

For, like Ireland, Denmark didn't actually qualify for the competition. Bloody war in Yugoslavia! Why couldn't a war have broken out between England and Wales?

Ireland were clearly better than England at Wembley in March 1991 but had to settle for a 1-1 draw. They were better than them throughout the campaign too, hammering Turkey, while England limped by the same oppostion.

And here is three minutes of football that best sum up what Jack Charlton's Ireland was all about. We're supposed be detached and cynical about the Charlton era now but this is really quite exhilarating.
