The news that Preston North End had signed yet another Irish international was something that many would have missed over the weekend, and it's probably because it's unusual to monitor the additions that Championship clubs make to their staff, as Dean Kiely has joined the club as their new goalkeeping coach.
It's yet another Irish link for the Lilywhites to go with their six first-team members from these shores and their tri-colour themed home, away, and third jerseys, which gives us even more of a reason to wish them well in their push for promotion to the Premier League.
Kiely signed as goalkeeping coach on Friday and was straight in at the deep-end on Saturday as he joined up with the team and took the GK sessions before the club's match with Birmingham, and speaking to the club's website he outlined that retired life didn't suit him after he left Norwich during the summer.
It's great for me to be here with a squad of players and a football club that's on the up so all things considered it's a real positive move for myself.
I left Norwich around six or seven weeks ago and then spent that time just twiddling my thumbs and tidying the garage out and this, that and the other. Once those things are done you just want to be back invovled.
I came in for training on Friday and took the game on Saturday and it's just great to be in. It's really refreshing as well because it's really apparent that the squad of players that Alex has got at his disposal work really hard.
You can tell they are a really solid group and there are lots of positives and I'm really looking forward to getting to know them and working with them.
Great to see him back involved in coaching, although it's no surprise as Kiely managed to make a name for himself while acting as goalkeeping coach at Norwich.
It was around this time last year that Keily's unique goalkeeper training routine went viral for looking like a ridiculous amount of fun while also having a clear benefit for those who participate.
Any excuse to post that again really, it looked like so much fun.
Best of luck to Kiely and indeed to Preston North End, just when you thought they couldn't get any more Irish they manage to find a way, fair play to them.
