Looking at the Republic of Ireland squad, it is clear that it is a bit light when it comes to wingers.
Chiedozie Ogbene and Mikey Johnston are two exciting players who have played well in green, although both have rather limited international experience. Outside of that, the options quickly begin to dwindle.
Stephen Kenny previously said that the lack of consistent wingers available to him was one of the reasons he changed to the 3-5-2 system that yielded mixed results, a system that he initially had no intention of playing. Ireland would return to a more traditional 4-3-3 setup towards the end of the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign when both Johnston and Ogbene were available.
Kasey McAteer is another name that could be thrown into the mix in 2024.
The Leicester City winger was said to be in the process of switching his international allegiances to Ireland late last year, and considering the form the 22-year old has shown in the Championship this season, he could be a valuable addition.
As it turns out, his performances have also drawn the attentions of some other clubs.

Rumoured Republic of Ireland recruit linked with Premier League switch
The Daily Mail have reported in recent days that Everton are closely monitoring Kasey McAteer as we enter the January transfer window.
It is said that the club are keen to bring the winger to Merseyside, although how viable the move is at the moment remains to be seen due to the club's current financial situation.
McAteer has only made his first team breakthrough at Leicester City this season and has also suffered with a couple of injury issues in recent months. Considering that, he may be better served remaining with his current club until at least the end of the campaign, one that looks very likely to end with promotion to the Premier League.
Leicester City would certainly not agree to let him leave on the cheap, something that could price Everton out of a move.
