The first Republic of Ireland team of the Mick McCarthy era has been named, and it is certainly an interesting side. Ireland take on Gibraltar in the first Euro 2020 qualifier of the campaign, in a game they will be expected to win.
Most of the debate in the build-up was focused fitting both Seamus Coleman and Matt Doherty in the team. McCarthy has managed it, and it looks like Doherty will play wide right of a midfield four, with Coleman in his natural right back position.
Elsewhere, Richard Keogh gets the nod to start alongside Shane Duffy in defence, while Conor Hourihane and Jeff Hendrick make up the midfield pairing. It looks like a classic 4-4-2 for Ireland:
