After signing a new five year contract with Everton last night it seems that Roberto Martinez may be about to make a massive signing to mark the start of his new deal. Rumours have sprung up on Twitter of Everton making a potential move for Xavi. The news emerged with this tweet from Spanish Football journalist Dermot Corrgian

The rumours gained momentum when Ian McCourt of the Guardian tweeted this a few minutes later.

It is known that Martinez is an admirer of Xavi having favourably compared Ross Barkley’s potential to that of Xavi. Speaking in March Martinez said
‘I am looking at footballers like Iniesta and Xavi who have that mentality and character and he has got that. To see an English player with that sort of focus is quite rare.
