The move of this transfer window was said to hinge on whether or not Manchester United's Henrikh Mkhitaryan would join Arsenal.
As the make-way in United's pursuit of Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez, it would now appear that while both clubs were cementing important victories this afternoon, the deal was concluded.
EXCLUSIVE: Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan agrees move to Arsenal in a deal that will see Gunners forward Alexis Sanchez go opposite way. It’s a straight swap, no money involved. Paperwork complete, Mkhitaryan will undergo a medical over the next 2 days #MUFC #AFC

Reports from the BBC and other British publications suggest that it is now only a pair of medicals that stand in the way of what is understood to be a straight-swap deal between the two clubs.
During his eighteen months with United, the Armenian Mkhitaryan has at times demonstrated the abilities that initially saw him move from Dortmund to United.
However, an inability to cement his place in United's first-team, and a general mistrust directed from Mourinho toward the player since an early, unflattering performance against Manchester City early last season, has left United happy to sacrifice the player as a means of acquiring the Chilean Sanchez.
That no money will change hands between the clubs is a factor that leaves many congratulating United's Chief Executive Ed Woodward.
Congratulations to Ed Woodward on arguably the best deal in recent years. A straight swap between Alexis Sánchez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan with no fee involved. Unbelievable steal.

Imagine living in a world where Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alexis Sanchez are worth exactly the same amount.

With both Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger acting less than coy about the prospect of the deal after their respective clubs beat Burnley and Crystal Palace today, the Frenchman suggested that Sanchez's absence today was a results of his inability to "drive up north and play football" for Arsenal.
Albeit quick not to leave himself looking foolish, Mourinho appeared equally confident in his post-match remarks.
Is Alexis Sanchez set for Man Utd?
Jose thinks so....

While the approximate 4 & 1/2 year deal being offered to Sanchez will disturb a portion of United fans given his age (and the wages being discussed), the departure of Mkhitaryan is unlikely to upset many.
Despite being an important part of United's Europa League winning side last season, the Armenian has not been seen to kick on this year, and as such, the proven quality of Sanchez is likely to encourage fans of United's capabilities going forward.
