Mamadou Sakho has been nervously awaiting his fate following an initial 30-day suspension by UEFA following his failing a drugs test after Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Manchester United in the Europa League on Saint Patrick's Day.
Sakho failed the drugs test following use of a fat burner, which was initially believed to include a substance on UEFA's banned list. The initial report breaking the news came via RMC Sport in France, which claimed that the use of the fat burner was intended for his own personal and therapeutic use. It was believed that Sakho would serve a suspension of up to two years.
Now, it appears that Sakho will face no further suspension from UEFA, as L'Equipe report that the substance was not included on the governing body's list of banned substances.
Should this be the case, Sakho will be available for inclusion in France's Euro 2016 squad, and his selection will be more likely following injury to Raphael Varane.
Confusion as to whether a substance is in fact banned or not seems exceptionally ignorant to us. We await the official confirmation, which is expected next week.
