Both The Times and The Daily Mail are reporting that Louis van Gaal, the current manager of the Dutch national team, will be confirmed as the new Man Utd manager next week.

The 62-year-old will not be able to take over until after the Netherland's World Cup campaign is concluded but has made a list of transfer targets which should be pursued in the meantime. This includes Borussia Dortmund duo Marco Reus and Mats Hummels. He has also given Utd the go-ahead to continue their pursuit of Bayern Munich's Toni Kroos.

It is not known yet what role Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and Phil Neville would have under the Dutchman as he is thought to be interested in bringing in his own backroom team. This could include Patrick Kluivert, van Gaal's assistant with the Netherlands, and Jaap Stam, currently assistant coach with Ajax.

Van Gaal should be an interesting appointment at Old Trafford. Former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness once said of him:

He is a super, super coach. His only problem is he thinks he is above God.

The possibility of Jaap Stam being part of his backroom team is also interesting as Alex Fergsuon fell out with the former Man Utd centre-back though has since admitted that he regretted the decision to sell him.
