Chelsea's reported transfer targets have been the subject of much ridicule in the past few weeks. Their pursuit of Andy Carroll was cut short when the target man got injured. Reports then suggested they wanted Peter Crouch and then, more reasonably, Edin Dzeko.
It now looks like none of those players will join the club as Oliver Giroud is on the verge of signing for Chelsea for a reported fee of £18million.
Matt Law of the Times has reported that with Aubameyang joining Arsenal, Chelsea's Michy Batshuayi will join Dortmund on loan to fill that gap while Giroud will join Chelsea to complete a nice little transfer-triangle.
At 31, Giroud is a short-term buy but a proven Premier League player and capable option from the bench. Antoine Conte has had minimal strikers at his disposal this year, compounded by star signing Alvaro Morata's mixed form. Morata has been confirmed as injured which could see Giroud make an early debut should the deal go through as expected.
Last season Giroud scored 16 goals and seems to fit the bill for the target man that Chelsea have so desperately pursued.
