Harry Kane's injury is set to put major pressure on Tottenham over the coming weeks, with the club now attempting to ensure they keep pace with their Premier League rivals in their star man's absence. While the injury is a hammer blow to the Spurs, Troy Parrott is set to benefit.

The Irish youngster is reportedly set to be called up to the first team squad, with talkSPORT claiming those at the London club see him as a genuine option up front. It would cap a remarkable rise for the former Belvedere man, who is one of the brightest prospects plying his trade in Britain at the moment.

Still only 16-years old, Parrott has been in fantastic form this season, already making the step up to the Spurs u23 side. He has recently travelled with the first team squad for the Premier League game at Leicester City, but has yet to make the match day squad.

With Kane set for a spell on the sidelines, Tottenham are looking for contingency plans as they fear a drop in form. Loan options are being considered, but Jim White of talkSPORT believes that Parrott is set to step into the void left in the squad:

One name being considered even at that level – and this would be a meteoric step-up – is an academy star, young striker Troy Parrott.

Heung Min Son is also unavailable for the next few weeks after linking up with the South Korea squad at the Asian Cup, leaving Fernando Llorente as the only senior option up front.

While this would certainly be a massive ask of a player who does not turn 17 until March, he is certainly not short on talent. He was Ireland's best player at the European u17 Championships last summer, leading the team to a quarter final appearance, in which they lost to eventual winner The Netherlands in a penalty shootout. He has also made a seamless transition into the Spurs u23 squad, despite only signing for the club last July.

Pochettino's willingness to have Parrott in and around the squad would seem to suggest he is open to the striker playing some part in their season, despite the pressures that come with introducing such a young player.

Irish fans would certainly be keen to see him get some playing time in the Premier League as soon as possible, and that opportunity may present itself in Kane's absence.
