It would be fair to say that Robbie Keane has had a contentious start to life as a manager. The former Republic of Ireland captain surprised a lot of people last summer when he took the top job at Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv.
It made Ireland's all-time record goalscorer a very touchy topic of conversation and a persona non grata for some in Ireland. As divisive as the move was it turned out to be a successful venture for Keane as Maccabi Tel Aviv won the league in Israel for the first time 2020. However Keane along with his backroom staff which includes former Ireland international Rory Delap all left the Israeli side during the week.
It is likely that Keane's success in Israel would would garner interest and there's reportedly a number of suitors chasing Keane's signature.
Daniel McDonnell from The Irish Independent is now reporting that Keane is in the frame for a return to Tottenham Hotspurs after his departure from Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Keane could reportedly be a part of manager's Ange Postecoglu's coaching ticket next season after the departure of Assistant Head Coach Chris Davies who is now the manager of Birmingham City.
It's a job that some would see as a downgrade as it's not a managerial job but the opportunity to work with top tier Premier League players would give Keane more valuable experience for if and when he returns to management.
There is also reports from Israel and Hungary that Robbie Keane is in line for the job at Hungarian champions Ferencváros. The club from Budapest have won the Hungarian league for the last six seasons in-a-row and are in the search for a new manager former Serbia International and Inter Milan star Dejan Stankovic left his post to join Russian outfit Spartak Moscow.
It would be an interesting post for Keane as Ferencváros will be in the qualifying stages for the Champions League. As league winners they enter in at the second qualifier round for Europe's top competition.
Although he is now available Keane is not seen as a contender for the Republic of Ireland job as many supporters were angered that he stayed on in Israel during the war in Gaza that began in October.
Wherever Robbie Keane ends up he would need to rebuild his relationship with a good proportion of fans in Ireland. His choice to take the job at Maccabi Tel Aviv left a lot of fans upset and disappointed so there's some fences to be mended for Keane.
