Liverpool's transfer strategy has been under scrutiny over the past few weeks as their coronation became inevitable. With Chelsea bringing in Werner, Ziyech and possibly Havertz next season, Manchester City chasing revenge and Manchester United looking dangerous all of a sudden, it seems like a summer of thrift is not practical if Klopp is serious about repeating this year's achievement.
Liverpool fans will be buoyed by news from Spain that broke over night that the club is on the verge of signing Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich. The 29-year-old central midfielder has played with Bayern since 2013, after joining the Bavarian side from Barcelona. Thiago has 37 caps for Spain and is out of contract at the end of next season. According to Catalan sports newspaper Sport, "negotiations are very advanced between the player and club and only the economics have to be worked out between the two sides."
Sport also report that Liverpool are hoping to sign Thiago for €35 million, which would seem very low. Liverpool's frugality in negotiations has been something of a stumbling block, it seems.
Thiago, 29, was said to be “shocked and disappointed” that FSG were asking that the Spaniard pay the petrol money of Liverpool officials he was supposed to be meeting for initial talks.

Thiago would be a major coup for Liverpool. He oozes class and would act as a dangerous pivot between Liverpool's defence and attack.

Early in the week France Football reported that Thiago was on the look out for a move away from Bayern and urged PSG to coax the midfielder to Paris.
UPDATE: Christian Falk of BILD, the newspaper that is first to many football stories at Bayern says the talk of Thiago to Liverpool is real but no offer has been made yet to the Spanish-Brazilian midfielder. Thiago, it seems, is leaving the club one way or another.
Not true. True: Bayern has no offer for @Thiago6 yet. But: in the dressing room of Bayern there are rumors about a interest of Liverpool in Thiago. Thiago said his collegues already goodbye @SPORTBILD @lfc https://t.co/bqObeDKs7K
