For Liverpool Football Club, it's been a season defined by injuries to centrebacks. With just twenty-four hours left before the transfer window closes, Jurgen Klopp looks like he might be willing to bring in some defensive talent, although it's not exactly a footballer that Liverpool fans were ever expecting see playing at Anfield.
A number of Liverpool-based journalists are reporting this evening that Liverpool will make an offer of £2million to Preston North End to sign their 25-year-old defender Ben Davies.

Davies has been a source of transfer intrigue this January, as his contract expires at the end of the 2020-21 season. Neil Lennon looked poised to bring the defender to Parkhead to shore up Celtic's woeful defense. Sky Sports reported on Wednesday that Davies had reached a deal to join Celtic.
Interestingly, the Liverpool Echo have reported that there has been no official contact between Liverpool and Preston over the transfer. Given that the transfer window closes tomorrow evening, time is clearly against Liverpool to make this transfer happen.
Klopp started his 12th different centreback partnership this season today as Jordan Henderson and Nat Phillips anchored the Liverpool defence as they beat West Ham 3-1 in London.
When asked by Sky Sports at fulltime about the likelihood of Liverpool moving for Davies, Klopp was decidedly cagey and refused to comment on the mooted transfer.

Klopp 🗣 "...Tottenham?" 🤣

UPDATE: Melissa Reddy of the Independent has reported this evening that a £2m fee has been agreed between Liverpool and PNE.
