Another Irish talent is set to move to Germany as Shelbourne's Finn Sherlock is set to join Republic of Ireland U17 International teammate Matthew Moore at Hoffenheim, according to report in the Irish Examiner today.
15-year-old Finn Sherlock is from Cavan and normally plays at the left side of defence or on the left wing and has been playing for the Shelbourne U19 side this season. He was also part of the Ireland U16 side that won the victory shield last season. John Fallon of the Irish Examiner is reporting that Sherlock is set to make the move in the summer and joins a number of Irish players who are now making the decision to move to Europe.
He won't be the only Irish youngster plying his trade with the former Champions League participants as Cork-born midfielder Matthew Moore has been there since last year and has been starting regularly for their U17 side.
Since Brexit rules came into effect, English clubs are not allowed to sign Irish players who are under the age of 18. This has meant more young Irish players are now choosing to move to mainland Europe or stay in Ireland for their footballing development.
Italy has been the main country enticing Irish players to come over, with Cathal Heffernan, James Abankwah, Ed McJannett and Kevin Zefi among others have made the move to Italy and have impressed.
There are a number of young Irish and Irish-qualified players that have come through Germany in recent years as well, namely former Republic of Ireland U21 International Conor Noß, who came through at Borussia Mönchengladbach and is now playing in Austria for BW Linz.
The prospect of having multiple Irish players across Europe in an exciting possibility. In years to come these young players can hopefully make the step up at senior level and make a positive impact.
