The FAI are looking into some unusual betting activity from last week's SSE Airtricity League First Division match between Shelbourne and Limerick.
An FAI source has confirmed to RTÉ Sport they have opened an investigation into the game, which Shelbourne won 2-0 last Friday night. Shels were backed in from 5-4 to 2-7 in the buildup to the match.
This is not the first time in recent times that a League of Ireland side has been investigated. Athlone Town came under suspicion in 2017 when a large amount of money was bet on one of their games in the Asian markets.
Bookmakers are required to report any irregular betting activity to the UEFA, which is what happened in this case. RTÉ Sport are reporting that a large number of in-play bets were placed on the home to win the game by more than one goal, with most money coming in before Shelbourne opened the scoring in the 38th minute.
The investigation is ongoing.
