It would be fair to say that the past 12 months haven't been kind to Ireland International Evan Ferguson at Brighton.
Having burst onto the scene in early in 2023, Ferguson started last season on fire, bagging a hat-trick early on against Newcastle, however since then it hasn't gone to plan for the Irish international.
A minor knee injury was followed up by a serious ankle injury which kept Ferguson out for a most of 2024 and since returning he has only scored twice for Brighton and Ireland, bagging the winner against Finland last week in the Nations League.
His club form has been less successful as his Ireland form and it looks like there could be a change on that front in January.
Report: Evan Ferguson Looking To Leave Brighton In January
In a report from Wayne Veysey of Football Insider, Evan Ferguson is looking to leave Brighton this coming January in search of regular first team football.
The Meath man has only features in 10% of total minutes for Brighton this season, with just the one start and one goal so far this season. Ferguson is said in the report to be looking to join another Premier League side, feeling he can compete at the top level if given the chance.
Ferguson renewed his contract at the Seagulls last year, signing on until 2029 so it will cost a pretty penny to take Ferguson off Brighton's hand. Therefore a loan move might be a more realistic option in January.
Having struggled with injuries most of last season, Ferguson is back to full fitness but has struggled to break into Fabian Hurzeler's side with the resurgence of Danny Welbeck and the German manager's preference for Brazilian striker João Pedro and record signing Georginio Rutter.
Ferguson is still incredibly young and just turned 20 last month so he still has a lot of time but if he is to leave Brighton. He would be very sought after by Premier League clubs as in his limited minutes he has shown a lot of potential of being a top class striker in the Premier League.
His choice in next club is vital for Ferguson if he is to live up to the lofty aspirations many in Ireland have for the young man. Either way if he stays or leaves, hopefully he can get back to scoring goals more regularly again.
