It looks like Shane Duffy's time at Brighton is coming to an end. Regarded as their best player as recently as 12 months ago, things have not gone well for the Irishman since the appointment of Graham Potter.
Potter prefers a more expansive style of football, one which requires his centre backs to be accomplished on the ball. The manager clearly feels that Duffy is not capable of fulfilling that role, with the defender finding himself out of the team more often than not over the second half of the season.
That situation is unlikely to change, with Brighton welcoming Ben White back to the club this summer, as well as signing Joel Veltman from Ajax.
Duffy will likely have the leave the club if he is to secure consistent first team football, with a number of clubs linked. West Brom are believed to be the front runners for his signature, but a move north of the border is not out of the question.
Mail Sport are reporting that Celtic have held discussions with Shane Duffy over a move to Glasgow, with Neil Lennon already having spoke to the 28-year old.
It is believed that Celtic would prefer a loan move, with the club unlikely to have the resources to meet Brighton's rumoured £10million asking price. Brighton would likely also require a loan fee and the vast majority of Duffy's wages to be covered by Celtic in any deal.
It is thought that Duffy would be open to a move to the club, even being filmed chanting his name with a large group of Celtic supporters in his native Derry recently.
However, the finances involved make this an outside bet. West Brom are keen to bring him to the club on a permanent basis, while West Ham are also monitoring the situation.
This one could come down to the preference of the player.
