Jack Wilshere announced his retirement from football on Friday morning. After an injury plagued career, it sees the talented playmaker retire at just 30 years of age
After bursting onto the scene as a 16-year-old during the 2008/09 season, the academy graduate would go on to make 197 appearances for the Gunners, winning two FA Cups along the way.
From his masterclass at the Emirates against a Barcelona midfield of Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets to scoring one of the greatest team goals of all time against Norwich back in 2013, Wilshere was undoubtedly a technically gifted players.
Despite earning 34 caps for England, you can't help but think what could have been if injuries had not hampered the Londoner's career.

Jack Wilshere's bizarre Goal of the Season award win
Back in 2015 on the final Match of the Day episode of the season, viewers were asked to vote for their Goal of the Season on a social media poll. There had been some sensational strikes throughout the season from the likes of Bobby Zamora, Philippe Coutinho, Juan Mata and Charlie Adam but it was Jack Wilshere who won the award.
After thousands of Arsenal fans voted for Wilshere's strike on the final day against West Brom as their favourite goal, the Match of the Day panel of Gary Lineker, Danny Murphy and Alan Shearer were amazed by the result of the votes.
That was @JackWilshere's first goal for us since he did this against West Brom, 928 days ago 🚀 pic.twitter.com/CSbduf1X4X

Shearer felt Charlie Adam's fantastic strike from inside his own half against Chelsea should have won the award, while Danny Murphy opted to choose his former teammate Bobby Zamora's audacious chip against West Brom was worthy of the award.

There's no denying that Wilshere's strike was a good goal, but when you look at some of the other contenders from the same season, you can see that justice wasn't caried out.
This prompted the BBC to change the rules on how the Goal of the Season was decided and since 2015, the fans vote for their favourite goal of the season and then the Match of the Day panel pick the best goal from the top three votes.
