Ever the committed bunch, we decided to stay in out of the good weather and instead read up on our football rules from 1919.
This referee's chart has been posted to Reddit by guy who calls himself MashedHair.
It's 76 pages long and if you think today's offside rule is complicated then you're in for shock with how it used to be back in the day.
A player was offside if they were standing ahead of a player taking a throw-in and, in open play, you were offside if there were less than three opponents between you and their goal when you got possession of the ball.
However some rules were a little more lenient; attempting to pull down the goal posts resulted in just a caution but should you do it again then you would be sent off.
As for tackling they state 'Let charging be of the good honest type.'
