As Real Betis' upcoming league clash with Malaga falls on February 28th, which is Andalusian Day, the club have released a special jersey to mark the occasion.
While Betis usually play their home games in their iconic green and white vertical stripes, they will be switching to the horizontal hoops as an homage to Celtic for a gesture shown by the Glasgow club when Real Betis was in it's infancy.
Scottish sports site TalkingBaws.com detailed the history between the two clubs when the jersey was announced earlier this week:
In an insane bit of trivia knowledge, (brought to our attention by fan website Real Betis Balompie) one of Betis’s co-founders returned from a business trip in Glasgow in 1912 with a set of green and black striped shirts, donated by Celtic F.C.
The owners of the Spanish side were so impressed by Celtic’s gesture that they adopted the club’s colours, however they made the green and white hoops into vertical stripes to give them their own sense of identity.
But now they're going back to the hoops as a nod to how it all began, and typically the jersey is a beauty.
The lack of a sponsor really makes it, as is often the case.
Nice. Very nice.
The jersey will make it's debut on February 28th against Malaga, who sit one place behind Real Betis in the table at 14th.
