It's a sign of how far Manchester United have fallen when advice like this comes from former international managers.

It looks like United will have trouble trying to sign some French stars if former French coach Raymond Domenech words are anything to go by.

Man United are facing the prospect of losing their star goalkeeper David de Gea and are exploring replacement options - among them Tottenham stopper Hugo Lloris. Given Domenech's comments however, it looks like United will have a tough time getting that deal over the line:

According to ESPN.co.uk, Domenech has warned Lloris off United because they aren't the giants of world football that they once were:

I have no decision to take for him, but in my opinion he has to play in Chelsea, Arsenal or Manchester City, to play in the European Cup.

Tottenham is a big club -- it is not the biggest. Manchester United qualified for the Champions League, but I can't see really the difference with Tottenham.

For me, it's Chelsea, Arsenal or Manchester City. Because I think Manchester United is no more a big club, in England, for me. I think like that.

I think Arsenal will be every time a big club, Chelsea also -- City is becoming a big club -- but I think United is with Tottenham, with the other clubs. Not one of the biggest clubs, so there's no difference.

It could be a reflection of how the rest of Europe sees where Manchester United are. But are Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea the only big clubs in England?
