It's happened again...
Ray Wilkins clearn must have missed Paul Merson's stunning rant when Marco Silva was appointed as Hull City boss, as despite their relegation the Portuguese manager did a wonderful job and earned himself a move to Watford, despite being accused of knowing nothing about the Premier League by someone who knows absolutely nothing about him.
We say that, because surely had he seen the backlash Merson faced, Wilkins would have been reluctant to go full Brexit during Monday's edition of 'Transfer Centre' alongside Ray Parlour.
After the Arsenal man expressed his belief that Man Utd will also be looking to bring in a midfielder, Wilkins launched into a strange point about European players being expensive, and suggested that Victor Lindelof has done nothing in the game, and should not have been prioritised ahead of Michael Keane from Burnley, who has proven he can play in the Premier League.
We've got young Keane has done exceptionally well at Burnley, we're looking to bring him back at Manchester United for £28m, all of a sudden Lindelof is 30 [million].
Now, when we bring someone in from Europe, it always starts with a 3.
This guy has done nothing. Absolutely nothing. Yet Keane has played a season exceptionally well in the Premier League, but we're talking £25m. This guy's coming in at £32m, £33m, can he do it? We know Keane can, yet we're prepared to spend..
It always starts with a 3, or a 4, or a 5. No-one gets anything cheap from Europe because it's the Premier League.
Vintage Wilkins, especially referring to Michael Keane as 'Young Keane'.
Did he not consider that Manchester United may have extensively scouted Lindelof before signing him? Did he not think that maybe the club has reservations as to whether Keane make the step-up to Champions League football after Burnley?
And as for the point about the fee starting with a 3, or a 4, or even a 5, that's just bollocks. With the utterly absurd money Premier League clubs are making, why wouldn't a club on the continent demand a high fee for one of their star players?
And even at that you'll still find examples of bargains from around Europe in the Premier League.
Still, that was damn entertaining.
