"Sell Ozil, Bring Wilshere Back"- Is Ray Wilkins Actually Serious?

It's been a good while since we last heard from Ray Wilkins, as the former Sky Sports pundit proved to be one of the most divisive former footballers asked to give their views on the modern game... But he hasn't been around much lately for various reasons.

We say divisive, because he tended to split football fans into two groups; those who thought his constant referring to players as "Young Frank" (Lampard) or "Young Scott" (Parker) was funny, and those who were driven absolutely mad by him.

He was liable to say something absolutely wild at any given time, and it's clear that nothing has changed judging by his comments on Arsenal and the contract situation surrounding Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

Both men are due a new contract if they are going to stay around, but Ray Wilkins has a very straight forward idea to solve the problem, which he revealed while speaking to TalkSport.

Get shut of Ozil, give the extra cash to Sanchez, and bring back Jack Wilshere from Bournemouth to fill the void.

I’d have Sanchez, all day long. I’d bring Jack Wilshere back and let Ozil go.

I think Jack is thoroughly enjoying himself at Bournemouth. He is actually playing week in, week out and you can see progress he is making.

Thankfully he is over the injury problems he has had in the past. I think Jack Wilshere could be the equal of Ozil, if not better. He has a total commitment around the pitch. Ozil has wonderful touches but when he plays against the big teams sometimes you see him go missing.

Those words actually did come out of his mouth, and he wasn't taking the piss.

It's like something Apres Match would say if they were parodying the former Chelsea and QPR man, who lives in his own universe where being born in England seemingly enhances your football ability to the world class level.

There very well may be a future for Jack Wilshere at Arsenal, but he most certainly not be tasked with doing the job that Mesut Ozil does. A baffling thing to say.

Only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have more assists than Mesut Ozil in Europe over the last nine years... But that Jack Wilshere is a "proper" player. Wilkins was a magnificent player in his day, but a good pundit that does not make.
