To celebrate Brian Kerr's 70th birthday today, we look back on one of our favourite moments of Brian Kerr co-commentary: when he rightly dismissed the qualities of Faroese defender Ragnar Klavan
As anyone who saw the game, or has had a glance at the Balls.ie player ratings from Burnley v Liverpool today will know, Liverpool defender Ragnar Klavan didn't have the best game for Jurgen Klopp's side: fault could be legitimately placed with Klavan for both of Burnley's goals, and the Estonian international didn't exactly make amends for a disappointing game against Arsenal last week.
Brian Kerr is one man who has his reservations about Klavan. During a lifetime spent in football, it's fair to say that Kerr has seen his fair share of useless defenders, but he has probably rarely used a more hilarious example to summarise their ineptitude.
Kerr encountered Klavan during his time managing the Faroe Islands, and didn't think he was much use then. He hasn't changed his tune, and was scathing of the Estonian on Today FM's Premier League coverage today.
He actually played against the Faroes when I was with the Faroes, and I remember studying him before the matches and thinking he was a bit of a weak link. I never thought he was a fellow that would be playing for Liverpool in the Premier League.
We got three goals against him with the Faroes, and we'd a load of part-time lads.
A load of lads working in the fishing industry and so on. They were good enough to expose him.
You can listen to the full audio of Kerr below.
Not a good start to the season for Liverpool defensively. Makes for great entertainment, though.
Liverpool's back four of Clyne, Klavan, Lovren & Milner won just ONE tackle in the first half.
