Football Leaks' sleuthing is undoubtedly of great benefit and interest to football fans, but it has had the spin-off effect of plunging us all into deep despair for the State of the Game.

They revealed, for instance, that Mario Balotelli would receive a million pound bonus at Liverpool if he avoided picking up three red cards for violent conduct in the space of a single season. Three!

While you may have thought that Balotelli had it easy, but in comparison to Rafa Van Der Vaart, Mario was heavily put-upon.

Football Leaks have today released Van Der Vaart's contract with Real Betis, for whom he toiled in obscurity last season: making just seven league appearances.

While he achieved nothing at Betis, Van Der Vaart did become extremely bloody rich.

Betis were so keen to disassociate themselves from rivals Sevilla, that they paid Van Der Vaart €114, 429 per month on the agreement that he would not wear red boots. Red being the colours of Sevilla.

Van Der Vaart received ten of these payments, meaning Betis paid him €1,602,006 in total. Just for the colour of his boots.
