Rafa Benitez is currently preparing his Real Madrid side for the upcoming La Liga season, and while rumours around the future of Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos continue to circle in the media, he may have noticed a few quotes from his significant other in there too as he read his morning paper today.
Spekaing to La Region, Rafa's wife Montserrat Seara Benitez turned a few heads with this comment about Jose Mourinho:
Real Madrid are the third of Jose Mourinho's old teams Rafa has coached, we tidy up his messes. If you think about it, of course you end up crossing paths. There are only a few world-class clubs out there.
Which was picked up by countless news outlets who reported her joke at Jose's expense, but it was another quote of hers that caught our attention as she explained just how obsessed with football Mr.Benitez is, by saying:
On our first date, Rafa explained to me what a 4-4-2 was. He finds it hard to stay away from the game.
The year we spent at home (after Rafa was sacked by Inter in late 2010) he helped coach the local school team. It was hilarious. He stood on the sidelines and shouted at them as if they were first division players, waving his arms about.
On the first date Rafa?
He's lucky to have her, because he clearly has no game. Although perhaps he was testing her, as if she can sit though a formation analysis on a first date then she's clearly worth asking out again.
It paints Rafa as a man who always has football on the mind, although he has some way to go to top this quote from legendary Liverpool manager Bill Shankley:
Of course I didn't take my wife to see Rochdale as an anniversary present. It was her birthday and would I have got married during the football season? Anyway, it was Rochdale reserves.
