While Manchester United have a far richer history, Manchester City are clearly the dominant club in the city at the moment. It is a dynamic which developed very quickly, and has become undeniable ever since the retirement of Alex Ferguson.
While United would win a final title under Ferguson in 2012/13, the start of City's dominance can be traced back to the Manchester derby which took place on the 23rd of October 2011. That was the day the blue side of Manchester produced a stunning 6-1 victory at Old Trafford, and announced their arrival on football's biggest stage.
