The 2010s were quite a decade for the boys in green. There were some sickening lows, from humiliation in Poland to inglorious hammerings to Germany, Wales and Denmark. Two managers departed in less than ideal circumstances, and most of all, the governing body of football in the country was run into the ground.
And yet, bright sparks. Two major championships for only the second time in our history, vaunted away wins over higher ranked opposition, beating the world champions in Dublin, and excitement about the future with as promising a young batch of players as we've seen in twenty years. We even won a tournament. I hope you haven't forgotten the glory of the first and only Carling Nations Cup!
All in all, 91 players lined out for Republic of Ireland senior men's team in the 2010s under Giovanni Trapattoni, Martin O'Neill, Mick McCarthy, and even Noel King. 60 of them made their debut in that decade.
It started with a 2-0 defeat to Brazil in the Emirates Stadium of all places. Keith Andrews has the unfortunate record of scoring an own goal in the first goal involving Ireland in the 2010s. Kevin Doyle has the happier record of scoring our first goal of the decade, against Paraguay in May, 2010.
Ireland played 112 games in the last ten years, winning 45, drawing 36, and losing 31, a winning percentage of 40%. Remarkably, when you exclude the 47 friendlies (including the Nations Cup), Ireland's record of 26 wins from 65 games is also 40%.
How well do you remember the decade that was though? We've made a list of every Irish senior men's international player in the last ten years, over those 91 games. (Non-official games such as testimonials were not counted). We've given you how many caps the player has won in tbe 2010s, and their primary position on the pitch. You have twenty full minutes to get as many as you can.
