Liverpool have reportedly slapped a price-tag on Raheem Sterling's head amid reports that Arsenal and Chelsea head the cue to take the 20 year old away from Anfield.
Chris Bascombe in the Telegraph has this morning reported that senior figures at Liverpool have decided that £50 million would be enough for the club to let go of their prized asset. However, the report states that the powers that be also believe that that figure is too steep to tempt some of their main rivals.
Bascombe is known to be well connected around Anfield so there is more than likely some truth to that figure and you have to think that if Liverpool were offered anything like that, they would certainly have to give it some thought.
Brendan Rodgers yesterday came out firing in his response to Sterling's unsanctioned interview with the BBC on Wednesday. The Liverpool manager made clear that Liverpool would not be forced into a sale.
Liverpool are one of the superpowers of football and if the owners don’t want to sell, they don’t have to.
Having said that, as happened with Torres and Suarez, if an offer large enough does come in, the Liverpool owners will certainly consider it and it seems £50 million is the magic number this time around.
