Becoming an increasingly common element of elite level football, it has been reported that the Premier League will now launch their first attempt at bringing in Video Assistant Referees (VAR), and it is set to happen this season.
According to Sky Sports, the Premier League will trial VAR at 15 games throughout the 2018/19 season. Understood to begin after the current international break, VAR will be trialed for five Premier League games on September 15.
Focusing on the five 3:00pm kick-offs, the new system will be overlooking the following fixtures: Chelsea vs Cardiff City, Manchester City vs Fulham, Newcastle United vs Arsenal, Bournemouth vs Leicester City, Huddersfield Town vs Crystal Palace.
From their hub near Heathrow, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) are hoping to prove that they "can cope with decisions arising from multiple matches."
Crucially, this will only be a run-through as it were, and the officials located in the VAR hub will not actually have any contact with the officials on the pitch for those games.
However, hopeful that they can prove their efficiency with regards VAR, the PGMOL are hopeful that a successful trial will lead to VAR being rolled out officially next season.
