There are some major changes coming to how the Premier League is broadcast on TV, with even more games to be broadcast on television, which will see some spill into a new Saturday night slot.
In another change, entire rounds of games are set to be broadcast, with the Telegraph reporting that these rounds will be midweek and on public holidays.
The paper has seen the tender document for the next set of television rights for 2019 through to 2022. The plan is to show 200 of the 380 games live on television, 42 more than present.
The Saturday night games will kick off at 7.45pm, with the Premier League going head-to-head with traditional Saturday night entertainment shows for the first time. It may also be a pre-emptive move on the Premier League's part with regard to the Champions League, who are considering experimenting with European games at weekends, having already moved the final to a Saturday evening.
Sky and BT paid a massive £5 billion for live broadcast rights in the last round of bidding, and it was rumoured that both broadcasters might face competition from some non-traditional areas, Amazon among them. Jeff Bezos' behemoth beat Sky to capture the rights to ATP Tennis earlier this year, but the Telegraph report that the next round of bidding for the Premier League may come too soon for the tech giant.
