Out of all the Irish storylines to keep an eye on in the Premier League this season, the form of Evan Ferguson will perhaps be the most consequential for the national team.

The striker has been billed as one of the brightest young talents in the game, living up to that hype when he first broke into the Brighton team. However, last season did not go as planned.

Ferguson would start the campaign in a brilliant fashion, but a mix of injuries and lack of form meant that he had very little impact after the turn of the year. The Irishman is still out injured at the moment, although he is expected to return to action over the next couple of weeks.

If one rumour is to be believed, he could also be the subject of some late transfer interest before the end of the summer window.

The Irish Independent suggest there are rumours that Brentford could make a shock move for Evan Ferguson before the end of the transfer window.

Thomas Frank's side could be in the market for a new striker, with current frontman Ivan Toney set to move to Saudi Arabia over the coming days. It is suggested that they would target a loan move for the player.

It has previously been suggested that Brighton would seek a fee in excess of £100million in order to sell Evan Ferguson, although it remains to be seen if they would have any interest in allowing him to leave on loan. The club currently have a plethora of forward players in their first team squad.

New Brighton boss Fabian Hürzeler admitted this week that he has been impressed with the limited glimpses he has seen of the player since his return to training.

You would imagine that they would have little interest in allowing him to leave on loan, unless the manager feels that his playing time is likely to be severely limited over the coming months.
