Liverpool have already wrapped up their first signing of the transfer window in Alexis Mac Allister, although it is unlikely to be the last deal they get over the line in the months ahead.
It is clear that Jurgen Klopp's squad is in need of some reinforcements, with the midfield a particular area on concern. The club had made only one permanent signing in that position since the summer of 2018, something that they paid the price for this season as their form dipped off dramatically in comparison to past campaigns.
Mac Allister is a good start to the window, but their fans will demand further arrivals in this window. Liverpool have been linked with quite a few players in recent times, with reports suggesting that Nice's Khephren Thuram is the most likely to be the next through the door.
As for other potential targets, one of them is also being courter by other Premier League clubs.
Premier League clubs to rival Liverpool for French midfielder
The Daily Mail are reporting that both Aston Villa and Wolves are likely to rival Liverpool for the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone this summer.
The Frenchman had been heavily linked with a move to Anfield in recent weeks, with the club said to have held discussions with the player's representatives. In saying that, it remains to be seen if they will be among their first choice targets in this window.
It is believed that Borussia Monchengladbach are seeking a fee in the region of £35million to sell the 22-year old, a price tag that most Premier League clubs would have no issue in matching should they pursue a deal.
Even if Manu Kone ends up elsewhere, it seems all but certain that Liverpool will bring in a couple more midfielders to go along with Alexis Mac Allister.
It should be an interesting summer ahead.
