Nathan Collins has undergone a very interesting period in his career over the last couple of seasons.
He joined Burnley from Stoke City in the summer of 2020 for a fee of around £12million. He was forced to bide his time for most of that campaign, although he would star after coming into the side in the second half of the season. Unfortunately, it would then end in relegation.
Collins did enough at Turf Moor to convince other clubs that he was up the required standard in the Premier League, with a number of sides linked with him last summer. In the end, he would move to Wolves for £20.5million, a record fee for an Irish player.
He started the season well at Molineux, although the team's fortunes would soon dip to a frightening degree. The Leixlip native then found himself out of the team from February onwards as manager Julen Lopetegui favoured experienced winter arrival Craig Dawson.
Of course, Collins would also establish himself as a key player for Ireland during this period.
There are now rumours that he could be on the move for the third year in-a-row.
Premier League club considering Nathan Collins move
Despite having a lengthy spell out of the team this season, Wolves still see the Irishman as a key figure at the club. In saying that, their resolve could be tested with a big offer from a Premier League rival in the months ahead.
The Daily Mail are reporting that Brentford are interested in signing Nathan Collins this summer. It is suggested that they are lining up a £20million bid for the defender.
While Wolves are not actively looking to sell the player, they could be tempted to move him on if they could get a decent profit on the £20.5million they paid for him last year. That would suggest that the two clubs are quite a bit off in terms of their respective valuations as things stand.
It remains to be seen if the two parties can work out a deal, although it would be a surprise to see him leave Wolves this summer.
Regardless of whether he makes a move to Brentford or not, it is clear that Nathan Collins needs to be playing regular football next season. He has spent large periods of the last two campaigns sitting on the bench, something that could have an impact on his development moving forward if it were to continue.
From an Ireland perspective, it would be encouraging to see him playing week in, week out at the top level.
