A great summer of football is over for Ireland and twenty-somethings feel they have enjoyed an experience to rival Italia 90. Annoyingly, the older generation are still nodding their heads dismissively and insisting that 2016 was but a pale imitation.
English tactics guru Michael Cox even unwittingly stepped into the Eamon Dunphy role by offering a bracing but rather harsh verdict on the Irish team.
With people now feeling bullishly optimistic about our chances in the World Cup qualifiers (our biggest concern at this stage is that Russia will likely be shite craic) we look to our playing staff.
Who shone for Ireland this summer? Some of these players were consistent throughout the four games, some experienced wobbles along the way but redeemed themselves.
