If you thought a ball boy getting the shit kicked out of him for celebrating a goal was bizarre check out the Copa Libertadores Under 20s match between Independiente del Valle and River Plate which took place last night.
The competition, which is the South American equivalent of the Champions League, took a turn for the absurd as Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle beat the River Plate club 3-2. In the latter stages of the contest main a scuffle that broke out that resulted in an Independiente player utilising the corner flag as a makeshift pike.
Angelo Preciado was the player that took things to the extreme after he drew the chagrin of some River Plate players. From the footage it looks like the Preciado has said something incendiary, he begins to get chased by his opponents and the Ecuadorian makes a beeline for the corner flag. Then, in a scene reminiscent of the movie 300, starts brandishing the flag about like a spear. The River Plate players are quick to retreat after a couple of wild swipes by the U-20 player.
After a short cooling down period, one of the management team throws the offending corner flag/weapon over the advertising boards and things start to become a little more civil. Take a look:
Bonkers.
Preciado, who just turned 20 on Saturday, played for his country in the 2017 U20 World Cup in South Korea and haspreviously declared his interest in one day lining out for Manchester City. However, this incident will surely have come as a red flag for Pep.
