It's that time of year when injuries ruin a player's dreams of playing in the European Championships, and the Republic of Ireland have been hit with some injury worries in the last few months.
One such worry was Cardiff's Anthony Pilkington. The winger/striker left the Championship leader's game with Burnley on crutches, and there were legitimate fears that Pilkington could be out for quite some time.
Fortunately for Cardiff, Ireland, and Pilkington, a scan has revealed that Pilkington hasn't suffered a serious injury. Pilkington has an existing knee injury which prevents Martin O'Neill from playing him as much as he'd like, but there's no doubt that O'Neill has always rated the player.
O'Neill did admit that his fitness is a concern, and that if his knee needs to be managed the possibility that he might not be able to play in each group game counts against his chances:
I would have to take some responsibility for a set of circumstances where a player is in consideration for two of the games if not all three.
